As such it has no way to detect incompatibility and remove mods based on version. But since mods are maintained by modders it cannot tell when a mod is compatible with the current version. Then you can get into cross mod compatibility problems. However in the past I have experienced mod makers who have claimed that their mod does not need updating for the current version which would subsequently cause problems with said new update.
I imagine a basic system of having mods state they are designed for a particular version would be possible.
